The first half of the Film Fest featured short films about the wider Kimberley region under the category, ‘Kimberley Calling’. The MC for the event Greg Quicke, shone as brightly as he did in ABC’s Stargazing Live this year, making use of the planets and moon to gee up the audience for the Film Fest, which was held under the stars at The Mangrove Hotel in Broome.īreathtaking filmmaking was on show from the moment the projector lit up, with artist Sobrane Simcock, filmed with time lapse cinematography painting a dancing brolga, which she then silent auctioned for the 2019 Mud and Saltwater Short Film Fest. The Mud and Saltwater Short Film Fest has become a mega cultural event in Broome, with an enthusiastic audience of over 870 enjoying 25 short films made by professional and emerging filmmakers about Roebuck Bay and the Kimberley coast.
